5 Nifty Tools for Monitoring Your Tribe

I’m not going to sugarcoat this…

Building relationships online is a time consuming activity.  Sure, it’s rewarding but you’re always fighting the urge to disappear down the social media rabbit hole.

I rely on several tools to help me manage my growing community of relationships while keeping an eye on new members to the Pushing Social community.  Here are some of the best ones that I’ve come across:

SocialMention

SocialMention works like Google Alerts for Social Media.  I use this tool to keep track of my mentions as well as following other writers.  The tool also has a decent algorithm for viewing Sentiment, Reach and other interesting stats.  SocialMention is free to use and will deliver reports directly to your inbox daily or hourly.

TwitterCounter

TwitterCounter’s premium version has a clever widget that tracks every Twitter follower who visits your blog.  You can review reports about these visitors and follow them directly from the admin area. This is a great way to find frequent visitors to your site that you can follow and  engage.
TwitterCounter’s will require you to crack open your wallet for some of the more useful features.  But the $15/month price tag isn’t bad, especially if you are tracking business accounts.

CommentLuv

I use CommentLuv to give my commenters the opportunity to drive traffic to their site from PushingSocial.  This is a great way to encourage people to make commenting on your blog a Win/Win proposition.
I dare say that I’ve even seen my comments increase after installing the plugin.  I know that correlation doesn’t imply causation but it’s darn conspicuous!

TwitterFeed

There are a few people in my Tribe that I follow religiously.  I read and reweet their posts often.  As my tribe has grown, I’ve turned to TwitterFeed to automatically monitor and tweet posts. Normally, I shy away from automating any of my community tasks but TwitterFeed has some great tweeting and retweeting options.

MyTweeple

MyTweeple checks out your Twitter account, pulls in all of your followers and analyzes who is following your back.  At least once a month, I used this tool to tidy up my follower list.  The tool also lets you export your follower list in csv format for analysis in your favorite spreadsheet program.

  1. What a great post! Thank you for sharing these sites– I’m only a part of twitterfeed so far, and look forward to checking out the rest.

  2. Thanks for posting the tools! Is there a free tool like twitter counter that is as reliable?

  3. Great tools and tips! Checking out Comment Luv now…sounds like a “must install!”

  4. Stanford, am I missing something? I like CommentLuv, and I use it on my blog, but I don’t see it here. And I’ve never seen it with the Disqus commenting system.

    • John,
You didn’t miss anything – you just reminded me to turn off Disqus from some testing I was doing. Thanks! This is why I love when people comment.

      • Stanford, I’m glad you made the switch away from Disqus. I think your visitors and commenters will prefer the standard WordPress system augmented with CommentLuv. I know I do.

  5. Great Post Stanford,

I’m familiar with all except for My Tweeple. Had been using Friend or Follow for house keeping on twitter, but after looking into it I see it offers a better user experience with better tools to make those crucial community member decisions on.

Thanks for bringing that tool to our attention. You Rock!
