In the video, the football player had given up on his team and himself. He used to be a leader, but his self-talk had turned him to just another average ball player. His coach used this linebacker to teach his team a lesson. You can always achieve more than you give yourself credit for. It all comes down to what you believe. Watch it again if you missed this gem.
If you listen closely to other bloggers, you’ll hear why many fail to achieve success.
“I’m not an expert”
“They (name of big-name blogger0 are different than me”
“I’ll never have that much talent”
and so on…
I’m a fan of modesty and humility. Nothing inspires leadership and fierce devotion more than a humble leader. But someone who hides behind modesty is at best lazy and at worst a coward. So if you are turning self-deprecation into a lifestyle then…check yourself before you wreck yourself.
How This Applies to You
This is the 58th post on Pushing Social. I almost didn’t write it. Every week, like millions of other bloggers, I wrestle with fears and doubts about this blog. Is it good enough. Am I making a difference. Will anyone read it. And so on…
You probably do the same thing.
However, every week I get to learn an important truth. Feelings are a poor indicator of reality. I’ve learned to distrust the doubting thomas sitting on my shoulder. I keep posting, no matter what.
You should too.
Let nothing stop you because in 1 year you’ll look back and be happy that you faced down your giants and achieved something great.
Ok…Talk to me. Leave me a comment and share what’s on your mind.

Very nice share. It’s not about being modest sometimes, if you know how to control yourself and not brag so much. It’s about believing in yourself and continue doing what you are most passionate about. That’s why it is important for us to have faith in ourselves.
Stanford…
Thank you for sharing this. For way too long, I have been fighting myself, going back and forth and around the corner over and over again about what in the world I am doing when it comes to writing and blogging and wanting to have written and blogged. Have I been too “preachy” on things that I know myself that I haven’t quite done… but am advising others to do? Maybe that’s why I haven’t posted since November 11th. Deciding is something that must be pushed through as well. I will do this, I want to make this something I want to do. It is important to me… and if it is important to me, it just might be important to others to be a part of as well.
Great post… and thank you again.
Well said. Well written……I really like that when I read your blog that I feel as though we are having a conversation. It is direct, real and to the point. Facts with out a waffly story that may cause doubt makes for a great read! I can attest to this post. It is so, so much what you believe…..that will dictate how your personal vehicle will drive in life. We can always hit the restart button and keep on trying. Failing at things is not a bad thing…..it is how we go from good to great! I have looked at where I was a year ago. This year was a year for a lot of change……I wouldn’t change any part of it. The best thing I did for myself, was to invest some time in myself…….Now, I am living with a new tool kit for life and I always keep collecting the tools that I like to emulate in my own life. Never stop writing……you have a gift.
Stanford,
I agree. Each time I write a post I too struggle with – Oh, am I tooting my own horn too much? Do I appear to be a “know-it-all?” I have a post I’m about to publish that I “watered” down for those very reasons……ugh! Thanks for letting us know deep-down we’re all experiencing the same things.
Thanks Angela. Now that we know the challenges – we can succeed together too!
Wow…this was a really good post! Thanks so much! I don’t even have a blog but have been thinking about starting one for about 6 months and 10-20 excuses come to mind everything I think about it. Your post really made me forget about all the reasons NOT to and just do it!
“Let nothing stop you because in 1 year you’ll look back and be happy that you faced down your giants and achieved something great.”
Thank you for the motivation!
What are you waiting for! I can’t wait to see where your passion takes you.
I found this great quote and even when I feel like my ideas are ridiculed by the established or by those who want to be established instead of innovative, I pull it out.
“Sigmund Freud was booed from the podium when he first presented his ideas to the scientific community of Europe. He returned to his office and kept on writing.”
If you are convinced that your ideas have merit and should be heard, keep blogging.
Thanks Sheri for the quote – thinking about printing it out and taping it to the desk
