If you want to absolutely master your industry, learn how to manipulate email like a samurai swings his blade.
As a mastermind member, you are going to get the secrets to email mastery. But, you have to dismiss a few myths about email that’s holding you back.
Myth #1: Email is dead.
Nope. Not even close. In fact, email is becoming more important as other marketing vehicles like PPC gets more expensive.
Myth #2: People Hate Email
Wrong. People hate spam. They love email from people they trust. Take a look around you. Those people thumb-tapping away on their phones are using email. The best way to get in front of them is by getting an invitation into their email inbox.
Myth #3: Email Doesn’t Work
Heretical and dangerous to believe. Think about this. When you signed up for Facebook, Twitter, or Linkedin, what did you give them? Yes. You handed them your email address? Why? Email is one of the best ways to deliver personalized information.
Email is critical. Resolve to use it to push your blog to the head of the line.
Email Mastery Mindset
We will get into more detail in future articles, for now, I want to share a few helpful fundamentals.
Intimacy: Email is an intimate, person-to-person medium. Write like a friend and trusted confidante. Act as if you belong in your subscribers email box and you will gain their trust.
Frequency: Frequent contact creates relationships. Friends hang out every Friday night. Spouses rush home to be with each other. We are programmed to equate frequent contact with trust. Use any excuse to deliver an email message. The more your readers hear from you, the better you will do.
Everyone Get’s Special Attention: The gurus are telling their acolytes to not collect a person’s name with their email address. Thousands of would-be business owners are yanking first name off their opt-in forms. Meanwhile, those same guru’s are sending out millions of emails personalized with their subscriber’s first name! Why? Well, becomes using a person’s name works.
I bet the gurus are laughing their butts off. Shaking their heads in wonder that anyone would actually throw away the advantage of personalization.
Don’t be an idiot. Collect your subscriber’s first name. Even if you don’t know how to use it right now. We’ll solve that problem soon.
Persistence: Email marketing isn’t a sprint. It’s an ultra-marathon that pays incredible dividends. Commit to communicating with your subscribers every week for as long as it takes to convince them that you have something special they need. Fortune favors the bold and persistent.
Tools of the Masters
I love watching woodworking shows on television. I am fascinated by the tools that master woodworkers use to do exquisite work. The dovetail saw, the wood chisel, the router all reinforce the wisdom that says that picking the right tool makes the job sweet and easy.
The same applies for email marketing.
The tools are:
1. An Autoresponder: Autoresponders send a series of emails to subscribers on a predetermined schedule. They do this automatically without your intervention. Right now, thousands of emails are being sent to my subscribers as I write this article.

2. An HTML Template: Each email you send should reinforce your brand look and personality. I like simple red, white, and black emails. My email templates are pre-configured with my color scheme. I just pull them up, write my email, and hit send.

3. A contact database: If your subscribers are gold nuggets, then your database is the gold mine. The best databases securely store subscriber information and make it easy to select specific segments of subscribers for special mailings.

I use Infusionsoft. It’s expensive $199/month and worth every single copper penny. Before I had a few dollars, I relied on Mailchimp and Aweber.
These are the fundamental tools you need. Combine the tools with the email master mindset and you have the foundation for a successful blog.
What does email have to do with blogging?
