I automate just about everything at Pushing Social.
My Saturday Weekly Wrap-up post is no exception. The guts of the post is put together automatically by pulling articles from my Feedly RSS reader. On Saturday morning, I copy the last week’s posts, paste them into a new blog post, add a bit of commentary and hit publish. The entire process takes 15 minutes.
- An IFTTT Account. Get It
- A Google Drive account. If you are logged into google, just type in google.com and select Drive from the black bar at the top of your browser screen.
- Feedly RSS Reader. Get It
Easily create your weekly wrap-up post by automating 90% of the writing.
Adding one additional weekly post will increase reader traffic, delight your only avid readers, and give Google another focused page of content to index.
How to Do It
Set-up Your Feedly RSS Reader.
1. Pull up an article.
2. Click Tag
3. Create a Tag called “Reading”
Set-up Your Google Document
1. Open Google Drive
2. Create a Folder and Name it “PS is Cool” – just kidding – name it “IFTTT”
3. Click on the new IFTTT folder to open it
4. Create a Document and name it “Weekly Reading List”
IFTTT means If Then Then That. It’s the duct tape of the web.
Use it to watch one thing and take an action when it sees a trigger. In this case we want IFTTT to watch our Feedly account. When we tag an article with “reading”, grab that article date, title, and url and add it to our Weekly Reading List Document
1. Go to Channels. Activate the Feedly Channel and the Google Drive Channel. IFTTT will walk you through the process of authorizing these channels.
2. Create a new Recipe
3. Click the big “this” blue link.
4. Select the Feedly icon
5. Select “New Article tagged” option
6. Select the “reading” tag from the drop down and click big blue “Create Trigger” button
7. Click the big “that” blue link
8. Select the Google Drive icon
9. Select to Append to a document
10. In Document Name – type in “Weekly Reading List”
11. In Drive folder path – type “IFTTT”
12. In Content, delete everything in the field, copy this
and paste into the field
13. Click the big “Create Action” blue button
14. Enter a Description for your new automated Weekly Reading list recipe.

Test your Recipe by:
1. Opening your Feedly application or visiting Feedly.com
2. Tagging articles with the “Reading” Tag
3. Go back to IFTTT, Navigate to My Recipes, find the recipe you just built and click the arrow.
4. Click the “Check” button. In about 10 seconds, it will give you an update. You should see that the recipe was triggered X times.
5. Go to Google Drive, navigate to your IFTTT folder, open it, and open your Weekly Reading List Doc.
