I’ve been thinking a lot about your blog over the last couple of months. Specifically I’ve been trying to unravel a persistent problem. According to Technorati there are 164 million blogs out there and most of them receive only 1,000 visitors a month or about 32 readers a day.
Here’s the question.
With all of the excellent advice out there about blog design, marketing, and monetization, why are bloggers still struggling to get more than 30 readers a day to their blog?
If you ask the experts, they might point to a well-known “self-help” statistic that says that 80% of people will fail to implement the advice they receive. I believe there is some truth to this but the explanation is missing something.
I decided to go right to the source and ask some of the most hardworking bloggers I know – Pushing Social readers. From my conversations I learned that the blame for low blogging performance is actually an issue with time, expertise and return. I’ll explain.
Time is a Finite Resource
Most bloggers are moonlighters.
They work on their blog when they can snatch an extra hour in their day. Most of that time is devoted to writing, editing, and publishing their blog posts. I know how that works, I was a moonlighter for 2 years before I went full time. I’m sure you are a moonlighter too.
So, many bloggers don’t have the time to implement the advice they receive. They have to make a decision with tweaking their marketing or writing a post. Writing often wins out.
Businesses owners that blog face a bleaker choice. Every moment spent blogging takes time from other areas that require their time. Time IS money for these folks. So finding the time to find advice, vet it, understand it, and implement it is a luxury.
“I Know What I Need to Do I Just Don’t Know How!”
My ears are still ringing from the reader who literally shouted this in frustration.
Do you feel the same way? You know you need a better design but can’t figure out how to get it? Or, you know you need to promote your blog using social networking but can’t figure out how to do it with spending hours a day doing it? Here’s a biggie… do you know that you need to use your blog to fill your sales pipeline but can’t figure out what to do first?
Look, with Google you can figure out what you need to do pretty easily. Heck I have much of it here. The problem is that you lack the “expertise” to do it efficiently, accurately, and affordably.
Money Doesn’t Grow On Trees
I caught myself telling my 11-year old son this time-worn truth. Spending money for coaching and consulting is tough for soloprenuers and small business owners. The decision is easier if there is a clear return. Who wouldn’t spend $1,000 for a guaranteed $10,000 return? However, blogging and social media advice isn’t so clear-cut.
This is where books, webinars, and other one-size-fits-all solutions falter. Frankly, you won’t see results from any blogging strategy unless you can customize it for your blog, reader, and market.
A New Approach Built Specifically for You
You have two choices: slowly chip away at your blog or 2) get help. The problem with the chipping away approach is that you might run out of time or motivation (sometimes both).
The problem with “getting help” is that most folks out there are happy to give you an ebook but not thrilled with working with you one-on-one. However, pound-for-pound, getting one-on-one help is extraordinarily effective.
That’s where I can help.
Today, I’ve added three new services to Pushing Social. They are:
Reboot: Blog Design
A fully personalized coaching + design service that will transform your blog into an attractive and professional marketing tool for your business. This isn’t an ebook. This is me and my team working directly with you to deliver a blog you’ll love.
Ignite: Blog Marketing
I’ll take my blog promotion best practices and apply them to your blog. The goal is to make you the most trusted and visited blog in your industry. I will personally work with you over the next 45 days to get more readers to your blog. When I’m through you’ll have more visitors and a 12-month roadmap to growing your blog.
Catalyst: Blog Profits
Readers are nice. Customers are better. Catalyst is a series of intense, practical, and actionable consulting sessions where I customize my Blog Sales Cycle system to your blog. My objective is simple : turn your blog into a sales and lead generator.
The Difference is Personal Attention
Realistically, you need someone to get your vision out of your head, create a plan, and jumpstart your blog with specific design, marketing, or sales expertise. Sitting in a webinar will give your more “what” but leave you exactly where you are right now.
Um…. This Doesn’t Scale
You’re smart enough to know that I can’t give this personal attention to everyone. So, I’m sure I’ll be starting a waiting list shortly. But for now, I’m excited to start working on your blog.
Does this make sense for you?
